About the job

Reporting directly to the Assistant Head of School and working closely with the Board of Directors’ Finance Committee, the Director of Finance and Operations is responsible for planning and managing all financial aspects of the school, as well as overseeing administrative operations, including human resources, risk management and special projects.

Responsibilities of the Director of Finance and Operations include:

  • Managing the administrative office, accounting department and overall school operations.
  • Overseeing all financial matters, including the preparation and administration of the school’s budget and annual audit.
  • Overseeing accounts receivable, accounts payable and payroll.
  • Managing human resources, including employment contracts.
  • Ensuring the school complies with government regulations; maintains accurate employee, student and financial records; prepares required financial statements and reports; and submits all reports required by federal and provincial authorities and relevant organizations in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring that the school’s building, grounds and physical assets are properly maintained and insured, and that appropriate safety and security measures are in place.
  • Managing and negotiating all service contracts.

Qualifications:

  • CPA designation.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in financial and operational management.
  • Experience in an educational or not-for-profit environment is considered an asset.
  • A sound understanding of applicable municipal legislation, relevant policies and regulations governing fundraising activities is considered an asset.
