About Talmud Torah

Position Summary
The Social Coach plays a vital role in fostering healthy peer relationships and positive play among elementary school students. This role combines direct student support, conflict mediation, and staff guidance to ensure recess and playtimes are safe, respectful, and inclusive.
The Social Coach will be a visible, active presence during recess, guiding students in healthy social interactions, intervening when conflicts arise, and modeling appropriate behavior. They will also train and support recess monitors and assistants in reinforcing these same principles consistently.

Key Responsibilities
- Promote and model healthy social interactions and fair play among students during recess and other unstructured times.
- Help students understand the value of inclusion, cooperation, respect, and empathy.
- Mediate small conflicts between students, ensuring respectful communication and resolution.
- De-escalate inappropriate or unsafe behaviors in a calm, constructive manner.
- Observe and identify patterns of student interactions to address recurring challenges.
- Serve as the point of contact for staff needing support with specific students or group dynamics during play.
- Meet regularly with recess monitors and assistants to train, guide, and mentor them in strategies for promoting positive play and addressing inappropriate behaviors.
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive playground environment.

Qualifications
- Experience working with children in an educational or recreational setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to mediate and de-escalate conflicts effectively.
- Understanding of child development and social-emotional learning principles.
- High level of professionalism, discretion, and calm under pressure.
- Commitment to the mission of Talmud Torah.
