Position Title: Social Sciences Teacher at the high school level
Reports to: Director of the Herzliah High School
Status: Full Time, Replacement
Start Date: school year 2025-2026
Job Duties and Responsibilities
The Social Sciences Teacher is responsible for teaching the programs established by the Ministère de l'Éducation du Québec (MEQ) within the Social Sciences subject area. Key responsibilities include:
I. Pedagogical and Didactic Responsibilities
- Planning and Instruction: Design and implement stimulating teaching and learning situations for secondary students, in line with the Quebec Education Program (QEP).
- Assessment: Prepare, administer, and grade various assessments (assignments, exams, projects) to measure student progress and assign results according to the MEQ’s Evaluation Framework.
- Differentiation: Address student heterogeneity and adapt pedagogical strategies (explicit teaching, projects, workshops) to support the success and pleasure of learning for all students.
- Cultural Mediation: Act as a mediator of cultural elements in History, Geography, and Contemporary World to foster critical and responsible citizenship.
- Digital Integration: Use and mobilize relevant digital tools to enrich teaching and promote active learning.
II. Professional and Collaborative Responsibilities
- Student Monitoring: Evaluate progress, discuss results with students, parents, and the school team.
- Collaboration: Actively participate in the school team (meetings, committees) and collaborate with other teachers and professionals to ensure the consistency of interventions.
- School Life: Participate in school life activities (supervision, extracurricular activities, educational field trips) to contribute to the students' overall development.
- Ethics: Act in accordance with the ethical principles of the profession and engage in a continuous professional development approach.
Required Qualifications
- Must hold a valid Teaching License (Brevet d'enseignement) issued by the Ministère de l'Éducation du Québec (MEQ) for Secondary Social Sciences.
o OR Be eligible for a Provisional Teaching Authorization (e.g., full-time enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Qualifying Master’s in Education program, or relevant experience).
- Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education, Social Sciences profile (History and Geography) or a relevant related discipline.
